Bei Bei Amigos Language Preschool believes that giving children the gift of languages ultimately gives children the advantage for future opportunities. We teach using a highly academic curriculum in the target language to children ages two to five years old Spanish and/or Mandarin using a language immersion education model. Programs The school offers both full day and half day language immersion programs. Student to teacher ratios are 8 to 1 allowing teachers to develop each child individually.
Technology is also a focus in the preschool curriculum. Research has also shown that immersion education allows students to develop high levels of proficiency in their first and second languages and achieve above grade level on academic assessments. We also believe that all children learn at their own pace and that providing them with an environment to explore and learn allows them to learn the world. Children need a balance of child-initiated and teacher-facilitated activities each day. We believe that children learn by experimentation, exploration, and collaboration. Children connect the learning they do in the classroom to real-world experiences and lessons. Themes are used to introduce information and build background knowledge so that learning takes place as the child explores and manipulates real objects and experiences. Curriculum Literacy, language, and technology are the focus of the curriculum. Classroom instruction is driven by the theme and divided into the following language blocks. Circle Time(10 minutes)- Children learn the calendar, numbers, days of the week, months and weather. Story Time(20 minutes)-The teacher reads aloud a book and initiates discussion around the theme. Language and Literacy Development (20 minutes)- the teacher teaches word and character sounds relationships, the alphabet, shapes, and colors. Music and Movement (20 minutes)- Through songs children learn the target language by dancing, singing and moving their bodies! Centers(40 minutes)- Children learn academic vocabulary in Science, math, art, music, blocks, computers, and dramatic play centers. The Classroom is jam-packed with literacy in the target language. Teachers read aloud to the students throughout the day allowing students to develop literacy skills and to model the love of reading. Literacy is the driving component of the preschool. Through research, we believe that mixed age grouping and centers that address multiple intelligences, are crucial in the develop of each individual child. Mixed age classes provides all children with opportunities to cooperate and learn from each other. It teaches them how to work in groups to accomplish a common goal, skills that they will need to participate in the new global economy.
